I
set up a blank canvas to express what I cannot portray with
words.
When I start to paint, my mood is the decision maker. Am I
hands on today - blending pastels with my fingers? Am I ready
to create texture with knives and other exploratory tools? Am
I calm & collected enough to work smooth & delicate
brushstrokes? I employ a more representational style, mainly
through landscape and floral images. When I attempt an abstract
painting, I cannot refrain from applying the small details that
will convert it into realism. These are the elements that give
me gratification on completing an elaborate and challenging
piece of art.
I have painted ever since I was a young girl, learning from
my father who's also an artist. After years of practice, many
areas of art come easily to me, but others need work and direction
and I continue exploring. I usually paint just for myself, or
as a gift for family or friends - these often lead to requests
for more paintings or murals. I attended Tercero Duarte Art
School in Guatemala from 1991 - 1995, then Pastels to Acrylics
in Durham College in 2001.
I have been teaching out of my home since 2002. I teach art
out of my studio to children ages 3 and up, and to interested
adults. When I am working with a student, seeing their joy upon
completion of a piece of art is a real delight to me. Knowing
I helped them develop their creativity and expression is nearly
as satisfying as completing a piece myself. |
