Obituary
JOHN
JOY Saying goodbye to brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather
and friend, John Joy is missed and will always be remembered
as a striking individual whose perspective on life was and is
still translated to everyone through his paintings and exuberance
of capturing the true colours of nature, countryside and towns
throughout the world. John passed away quietly on a peaceful
evening with wife Elsie and family by his side. Born in Toronto
(1925) and educated at Central Technical School (1940 - 45)
and the Ontario College of Art (1944 - 48), John Joy travelled
extensively across Canada, including the Arctic, Europe, Asia
and US, seeking to capture the essence of his subject with watercolours,
acrylic and oil paints, all of which he is remarkably proficient
in. For many years, John demonstrated his art techniques for
school children, has exhibited widely and had numerous successful
one-man shows from where his paintings have gone to many parts
of the world. He has shown with the Canadian
Society of Painters in Water Colour and is a founding member
of the Society
of Canadian Artists. John Joy was a longtime member of the
Arts
and Letters Club in Toronto. Reflecting on a lifetime of
fulfillment, 86 year old John has painted for seven decades
and has been called one of Toronto's, if not Canada's, most
recognizable and respected painters.
