John Joy - Biography

John was born in Toronto in 1925 and studied art under the tutelage of Carl Schafer and the renowned Doris McCarthy.

John is a founding member of the Society of Canadian Artists. He is an active member of the Arts and Letters Club and has exhibited with the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.

John is known for his tremendous sense of colour that brings his watercolours to life. He paints on location, preferring not to sketch or photograph his subject matter. John's location paintings enable him to capture the mood of the moment.

Throughout his career John has distinguished himself for his vibrant watercolours depicting the landscape of Canada.

An artist's artist, John tours extensively, demonstrating his skills at art schools and shows. Former students and fellow artists look to him as a continuing source of guidance and inspiration.

John has had numerous successful shows, his original watercolours are in many important corporate collections throughout Canada. John has exhibited in many prestigious, juried shows.
